By Juvenile Justice Board in Marad case
Former Additional Home Secretary also summoned
113 persons in additional list of witnesses
Kozhikode: The Kozhikode Juvenile Justice Board here on Monday issued summons to former Kozhikode District Collector T.O. Sooraj and former Additional Home Secretary Thresiamma to collect evidence from them in connection with the trial of the five juveniles charge sheeted in the Marad massacre case. Both of them will be examined on May 5.
Board Chairman Chief Judicial Magistrate K.V. Gopikuttan and members Nasir Chaliyam and K. Shiny, advocate and social worker respectively, decided to collect evidence from them since both of them figured in the list of additional witnesses submitted by the prosecution. The board had approved the additional list of 113 persons, taking the total number of witnesses to 175.
As of now, the board has examined 55 witnesses. On Monday, it collected testimonies of 10 persons on the case in which nine fishermen were killed at the seaside village of Marad on May 2, 2003.
As many as 137 accused faced trial in the case at the Marad Special Court at Eranhipalam. The trial of the juveniles began several months ago. One of the accused had escaped to Saudi Arabia after securing bail three years ago.
