The Matsya Thozhilali Federation, affiliated to the Swatantramatsya Thozhilali Union (STU), has said that traditional fishermen got a raw deal from the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government as ‘‘70 per cent of their families'' have been denied a place in the below poverty line (BPL) list. “The government has not kept its promise to include all families of traditional fishermen in the BPL list,” Ummer Ottummel, Sta te president of the federation, said here on Wednesday.

Mr. Ottummel alleged that many well-to-do families had found a place in the BPL list. “The flawed list was prepared by pro-LDF school teachers after dumping BPL lists prepared after conducting surveys and with the approval of the grama sabha in the presence of people's representatives,” he said.
