Final hearing in
dam case on April 9
The Supreme Court on Monday directed that the Mullaperiyar dam dispute case be listed for final arguments on April 9.
A five-judge Constitution Bench fixed the date after brief submissions from senior counsel Rajev Dhavan for Kerala and senior counsel Vinod Bobde for Tamil Nadu. The Bench asked both the States to complete all pleadings before the final hearing.
The Bench is hearing a suit filed by Tamil Nadu questioning the law enacted by Kerala in 2006 to restrict the water level in the dam at 136 feet though the Supreme Court had permitted Tamil Nadu to raise it up to 142 feet. The new Bench took up the matter after Justice Jain, who headed the previous Bench, retired on January 24.
