KOCHI: A group of young filmmakers has urged the State government to make public the criteria for electing jury members who select films for the Kerala Film festival.

Talking to mediapersons, filmmakers including Biju, Asok R. Nath, Anil Mukhathala and actor Anoop Chandran said that only two of the five members in the panel for selecting entries to the new Malayalam films category had any connection with cinema.

Some panel members had selected a few films on which they had worked for the competition category. This amounted to serious impropriety and violation of precedents.

The panel had also selected a few commercially-successful movies in place of new Malayalam films which handled contemporary and socially relevant issues, they said.

The filmmakers and actor said that they would organise a parallel exhibition outside the venue of the film festival for people to watch their movies which were not considered by the panel.
