Shobhana Parameswaran Nair brought a radical change in Malayalam cinema, journalist R. Sreekandan Nair has said.

He was delivering a commemorative lecture on film producer Shobhana Parameswaran Nair on his second death anniversary here on Friday. “The films of Parameswaran Nair were landmarks in the Malayalam film industry. They were realistic in approach and progressive in their concerns.”

Parameswaran Nair represented an era in Malayalam cinema that was marked by camaraderie and cooperation among the crew members, he said.

His ability to involve in the entire process of filmmaking — right from identifying story to choice of actors — made him different from other producers. He would be remembered for getting Malayalam cinema out of the studios to outdoor locations, Mr. Sreekandan Nair said.

Playback singer Jayachandran inaugurated the function. Parameswaran Nair's wife Saraswathi Amma was among those who attended the function.

A documentary on Parameswaran Nair by M.R. Rajan was screened. ‘Vellithiramala', a programme on songs from his movies, followed.
