The Eighth International Film Festival of Thrissur (IFFT) will begin on February 15. The theme of the five-day festival is: “Woman and child”. The festival will protest against attempts to curb freedom of expression in the context of the controversy over the release of Kamal Haasan’s film, “Vishwaroopam”. Expressing solidarity with Kamal Haasan, the festival has been dedicated to upholding freedom of expression, democracy and secularism. A retrospective of the films of Akira Kurosawa will be held. A touring cinema programme will be held in the district from February 3 to 10 as part of the festival. Under the programme, screenings will be held at Kunnamkulam, Wadakkanchery and Thalikkulam. “Exposition 2013”, an exhibition of paintings and installations will be held at Sree Theatre.
