‘Thaala Mahotsavam,’ a festival of percussion instruments, will begin on Thursday at the Vyloppilly Samskrithi Bhavan here. The Department of Cultural Affairs is organising the event that will see lectures, demonstrations and live performances of a range of instruments.

Minister for Cultural Affairs K.C. Joseph will inaugurate the programme at 10.30 a.m. During the valedictory ceremony on Saturday, exponents of various percussion instruments, including Sadanam Sridharan, Annamanada Parameshwara Marar, Kothara Sekharan Nair and Malamakkavil Prabhakara Pothuval will be honoured.

A ‘Thayambaka’ performance by children will also be conducted as part of the event, according to a press release issued here .
