With first prizes in Light Music and Kathakali Music and second prize in Ghazal, V.G. Harikrishnan of GVHSS, Atholi, emerged as the star singer of the State School Art Festival.

The Plus One student was easily the pick of the lot in the HSS Boys’ Light Music competition, though he had to fight hard for the Kathakali Music crown.

In Ghazal, he could come only second to Alka Ajith, who bagged the first prize in the event that made its debute in the festival. His rendition of the popular Mehdi Hassan ghazal “ Pyar bhare do sharmile nain… ” wowed the audience so much that none who heard him could believe he had never sung ghazals before.

“I learnt this ghazal only for the festival,” he said.

But Harikrishnan’s crowning glory was his song “ Ilaneer kulirolum… ” for the Light Music competition.

An admirer of Yesudas, Chithra and Sujatha, he had won the first prize in Light Music at the State festival two years ago.
