Farmers in Palakkad district have not yet received compensation for crop loss in the severe drought-like conditions last year. The Agriculture Department had sanctioned over Rs.10 crore as compensation to 14,000 farmers.

Anil Kumar, Principal Agriculture Officer, said the compensation had not been paid as the government had not released the allotment of drought relief fund. He said paddy farmers had been sanctioned Rs.6.5 crore as compensation. The remaining Rs.4.5 crore was sanctioned for loss of other crops.
