KATTAPPANA: With the distribution of certificates to the 250 farmers of Mankulam grama panchayat who have passed the C1 (conversion-1), C2 and C3 organic farming project by Minister for Agriculture Mullakkara Ratnakaran at Thodupuzha on January 15, a project launched three years back will be realised in the State.

A three-day programme arranged in connection with this will include exhibition and sale of organic products grown in Mankulam grama panchayat.

With organic certification, farmers will be able to export their products at a higher price to Germany and Switzerland.

The products include vegetables and cash crops like cardamom and pepper.

Sources in the Kerala Agriculture Development Society (KADS) which is the implementing agency in the State for organic cultivation, said that the grama panchayat was selected on the basis of its topography and about 1,000 farmers will soon be eligible to get the organic farming certificate.

It is being given through the Germany-based Lacon certification agency and the Switzerland-based Indian Organic certification agency (Indocert).
