KOZHIKODE: The Agriculture Department has transferred the four staff members at the Krishi Bhavan office at Kodencherry following the protest triggered by the suicide of a farmer in front of the office on June 7. The protest was held under the aegis of the Farmers Relief Forum.
Kudipara Thomas, 65, an areca farmer, committed suicide in front of the Krishi Bhavan office by hanging himself allegedly for denial of relief for his destroyed areca palms.
Deputy Director of Agriculture Heera Nettur said following preliminary inquiries conducted by the department and in view of the protest by the local people, the department transferred the entire staff of the Kodencherry Krishi Bhavan office.
The fax message was received on Tuesday and the staff were relieved on Wednesday. While Agriculture officer N.R. Reshma was transferred to Malappuram the three agriculture assistants T.J. Chacko, A.K. Kuttappan and Soman were transferred to Thrissur, Ms. Heera Nettur said.
Agriculture officer of Thiruvambadi P. Prakash would be in temporary charge of Kodencherry office till the new employees take over. The Farmers Relief Forum suspended the relay stir in front of the krishi bhavan following the decision to transfer the staff.
