ALAPPUZHA: A family of four was allegedly drugged and robbed of cash and other belongings while they were on their way to Vadakara on the Dhanbad-Alleppey Express late last night.

According to the police, the family of Moosa, 55, a native of Vadakara who runs a tea-stall in Singarayakonda of Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh, was supposed to disembark from the train at Shoranur. However, other passengers found them lying unconscious in their compartment when the train stopped at Ernakulam on Saturday night.

By the time the Ernakulam police arrived, the train had left the station. The information was passed onto the Alappuzha police who took the family to the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital when the train reached Alappuzha around 10.30 p.m.

According to Moosa’s daughter Mohsina, the family had boarded the train from Singarayakonda on Friday. A couple of Tamilians who were in the same compartment offered them mango juice, probably laced with sedatives. The family does not remember anything after that.

Moosa’s wife, Subeida, says her husband’s mobile phone and cash wallet have gone missing. Subeida along with her daughters Mubeena and Mohsina had gone to Singarayakonda to join Moosa during the vacations and were on their way back when the incident occurred.

The Alappuzha police have handed over the case to the Chennai Railway Police.
