Fake currency of Rs.9.75 lakh was seized from a passenger at the Nedumbassery international airport on Saturday. Customs officials said Habib, 32, of Malappuram had arrived from Dubai carrying fake currency in notes of Rs.500. The notes had been stitched into a quilt in layers and packed in a carton so that it was tough to spot, Customers Commissioner K.N. Raghavan said.

Mr. Raghavan said Customs had increased their surveillance at the airport to check possible smuggling of gold since gold duty had been increased recently.
