The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has paid a compensation of Rs.35,000 for causing damage to the properties of a person by failing to fill up a trench dug for laying an 11-kV cable as per an order of the Kerala State Human Rights Commission.

Commission Chairman J.B. Koshy passed the order on a complaint filed by K.P. Chitrabhanu, a resident of Aakkulam. Mr. Chithrabhanu said that after digging up a trench on the Pulayanarkotta Hospital road in February 2010, KSEB authorities left it open for 10 months. This had affected his freedom of movement and damaged his compound wall and the collection box of a temple on the stretch.

The Deputy Chief Engineer of the board submitted a draft for Rs.35,000 to the Commission and it was given to the complainant, a commission release said.
