ALAPPUZHA: An ex-soldier, who was to return home in Chengannur on October 29 after taking voluntary retirement from the Assam Rifles, has gone missing.

Addressing a press conference at Alappuzha on Tuesday, Shiny Jacob, of Chengannur, said her husband, Jacob Abraham, 39, had been missing since October 28. Mr. Abraham, who was with the Assam Rifles for the past 21 years, had opted for the Voluntary Retirement Scheme.

He also informed her that he boarded the Guwahati-Mangalore Express on October 26.

Reaching Chennai, he called and said he would board the Chennai Mail to reach Chengannur on October 29.

Luggage reaches station

However, there was no news of him after that, Ms. Jacob said. Railway authorities from Thiruvananthapuram had called up his house around 12.30 p.m. on October 29, informing the family that Mr. Abraham’s luggage had reached the railway station. Though the family members conducted enquiries in Chennai and other places, they were yet to obtain any information about his whereabouts, she said.

Mr. Abraham came on leave in July and left on August 5. He did not have any enemies as per the family’s knowledge, his mother, Thankamma, and brother, Kunjumon, said.
