KOCHI: The Kuruppampady police arrested two persons and recovered explosives kept without proper authorisation.

Biju and Prasanth, employed as managers with Anna Granites at Vaykkara, were arrested after the police took 561 kg of ammonium nitrate, 75 kg of gelatine stick, 2000 metres of loose wire and nearly 2500 detonators stored in the office room, said Sam Jose, sub-inspector.

The police have initiated probe into the source from which they got the material and to whom were they delivering it, he said.

One arrested

The Ernakulam sub-unit of Crime Branch (Economic Offences)-II arrested the second accused in the case being investigated for cheating those belonging to weaker segments of society and grabbing their land.

Shajahan, 41, of Chenthara Veedu, Kuttumassery, Aluva, was arraigned as second accused in the case registered for making people in Vallarpadom and Panampukad areas believe that they would clear existing debts on their lands and more loans from banks. The first accused, M.A. Ibrahim, was arrested on March 29.
