Actor N.L. Balakrishnan inaugurated the pavilion of the Animal Husbandry Department at the Kollam Fest venue on Friday. The pavilion, covering an area of 4,400 sq ft, is poised to become one of the star attractions of the festival.

Mr. Balakrishnan inaugurated the pavilion by feeding an elephant a bunch of bananas. A rich collection of endemic and exotic animals and birds is showcased in the pavilion.

Birds ranging from giant exotic parrots to little colourful sparrows are on display.

The African grey parrot, which is adept in mimicking human speech, is already a big draw.

Colourful cockatoos with their melodious voice are also a big attraction. There is a huge collection of the beautiful Sun Conures, an expensive pet. Emus, turkeys, and ornamental fowls also feature in the show.

The collection also includes the endemic Vechur and Kasaragod Dwarf cows, giant rabbits, Malabar goats, and a wide range of dogs. There is also an egg collection, ranging from the huge ostrich eggs to the small lizard eggs.
