District Collector P.B. Salim inaugurated the Jute Fair at Hotel Jaya Auditorium here on Wednesday.

The fair, organised by the National Jute Board, is an exhibition-cum-sale of lifestyle jute products like floor-mats, shopping and fancy carry bags, handicrafts, wall-hangings, gift items, stationery home textiles and ornaments. Around 25 jute entrepreneurs from all over the country are showcasing their products at the fair.

The biggest advantage of jute products, made from natural fibre, was that they were eco-friendly and economical. They had also become fashionable lately. The fair was intended to create awareness on jute products and to market them in a better way, a press release said.

The fair will be open till February 13, it added.
