Actor Guinness Pakru turns director with ‘Kuttiyum Kolum’
“Hopefully, critics will not compare the film’s success with its director’s size,” quipped the diminutive Guinness Pakru aka Undapakru whose directorial debut, Kuttiyum Kolum , will be released across the State on Saturday.
Kuttiyum Kolum , which will be released in around 60 screens across the State, revolves around the bonding between friends living in an imaginary village named Kumarapuram bordering Tamil Nadu. Tamil actor Aditya plays Shaktivel, while Pakru gives life to Vinayakan.
“It is a dream come true for me. As I child, I had dreamt of directing a film,” he told a media conference here on Thursday ahead of the release.
“It is always a challenge to direct a film, more so for someone of my size. Where people of normal size take ten steps, it would take me about hundred to cover the same distance,” said the immensely talented actor who has even acted in a few big ticket Tamil movies like A.R. Murugadoss’ Surya-starrer Ezham Arivu .
“To manage around 120 people for more than a month and act simultaneously proved a great challenge. The crew, however, was very co-operative. Even the senior actors were of great help.”
If that was not enough more challenges surfaced as he had to do some pre-production and post-production works on his own. “It was hard but not hard enough to deter me from pursuing my dream,” a confident Pakru said.
Having written the story on his own, he is now considering remaking the movie in Tamil. Pakru, whose real name is Ajaykumar, holds the Guinness record for the shortest actor to play the lead in a feature film.
When asked whether he was aiming at the record of being the shortest person to direct a film, he said that he would rather be known as the director of a successful debut film.
A host of stars including Sanusha, Suraj, Menaka, Vijayaraghavan, Siddique, Bijukuttan, Tini Tom, Babu Namboothiri and Munna are part of the film. Shaan Rahman, who composed music for the hit Thattathin Marayath , is the music director.
