KOCHI: The Self-financing Engineering College Managements’ Association has urged the government to ensure that the seats in government quota in self-financing colleges do not remain vacant owing to exercising of the third option for admission.

The month-long counselling should start on July 1 so that classes can begin on August 15.

Association president G.P.C. Nayar said talks were held with Education Minister M.A. Baby on Sunday and the government had accepted the demand. He said the agreement would be signed in Thiruvananthapuram on June 24.

Mr. Nayar said seats in self-financing colleges remained vacant last year as many students who were admitted to the colleges in the initial round left on getting admission to other colleges after exercising the higher option.
