Thiruvananthapuram: Congress Working Committee (CWC) member A.K. Antony on Monday asked the Left Democratic Front Government to take the initiative to end the stalemate in the higher education sector following differences between the Government and managements over the Professional Colleges Act.

Managements should cooperate to resolve the problems to protect the future of thousands of students, he said, speaking after presenting the C.P. Sreedharan memorial award to journalist K.M. Roy. Mr. Antony said that social justice should be ensured and the poorer sections should get opportunity for higher studies. Justifying the previous UDF Government's decision to give No Objection Certificates to all applicants for professional colleges, he said the possibility of large-scale corruption could be avoided.
