Message to be spread among 5,000 youths

KANNUR: An elocution series in the district as part of the campaign of the State Youth Welfare Board against drugs will end on Saturday.

The elocution series, with the message of vigil against drugs, will have been held in 50 centres when it ends on World Youth Day on Saturday. The series is being conducted in clubs affiliated to the board, higher secondary schools and colleges as well as in fishermen and adivasi colonies in association with local social organisations. The elocution series was started on June 26, World Anti-Drug Day. Its topic was youth initiative against drug menace.

Board Special Officer A.T. Sebastian said the campaign had received encouragement as there were many youths who were interested in participating in the struggle against drugs as well as social and educational organisations that became local organisers of the programme. The anti-drug message will be disseminated among nearly 5,000 youths, he said.

The campaign attended by people's representatives, teachers and social workers was inaugurated by Ramachandran Kadannappally, MLA.
