The Kazhakuttam police registered a case after two members of the expenditure monitoring squad of the Election Commission were allegedly manhandled by two supporters of the United Democratic Front at Kazhakuttam on Sunday.

The police said the officials – Anil Kumar and Siju – had gone to the Amman Kovil Hall at Kazhakuttam Junction to videograph an election meeting around 6 p.m., when party supporters allegedly entered into an argument with them. The two officials were manhandled and had to leave the venue without completing the job. Based on their complaint, the police registered a case against two identifiable persons.

Arrested

One person was held with a cache of banned tobacco products from near Pangode on Saturday.

The Poojappura police registered a case and produced the accused in court on Sunday.

The police said Radhakrishnan of Pangode was held with around 600 packets of tobacco products, all of which were prohibited.

He was released after paying a fine of Rs.1,000, police said.
