Writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair will inaugurate a joint convention of Malabar-based environment groups and activists in Kozhikode on November 12 as part of forming a State-level coordination committee.

Office-bearers of over 100 small and big environment organisations, working in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts, would attend.

Paristhithi Samrakshana Ekopana Samiti chairman T. Shobheendran said the committee would seek to abolish posts like president, vice-president, and secretary (of various organisations).

The activities would be coordinated by district- and State-level project coordinators, he said.

The coordination committee would try to rope in more youngsters into conservation efforts. Environmentalists hoped that the end of individual-centric functioning would attract more youths to the field.

From the south too

Environmental organisations operating in the southern part of the State too had expressed willingness to realise the objective. After the formation of regional coordination committees, the State panel would come into existence under a 150-member coordinating team, Prof. Shobheendran said.

More and more youngsters would be made project coordinators. The senior members would take up more guidance and advisory roles, he added.
