The eco club initiative launched by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) to create environmental awareness among children, is now being extended to 2,500 government and aided schools.

Taken up under the National Green Corps programme of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, the initiative has covered 3,500 schools in the first phase.

The KSCSTE has invited applications for registration from schools not covered under the programme. The district coordinators of the NGC programme will register the schools.

Besides financial support for eco clubs, the programme also includes environmental training for teachers, encouragement for environmental activities and support for conducting environment programmes.

A pressnote issued by the KSCSTE said the registration details could be accessed on the websitewww.kerenvis.nic.in
