Former BJP general secretary and RSS ideologue K.N. Govindacharya has said that India should give up the Western development model it follows.

Addressing environmentalists at Chalakudy, he said the European model of development created ecological imbalance. “The traditional Indian model of development, on the other hand, envisages man's peaceful co-existence with other beings and worship of Nature,” he said.

Those present on the occasion included Venugopal Reddy, southern region coordinator of Bharat Vikas Sangam; Rashtriya Swabhiman Andolan State convener Jayaprakash Kesavan; and Chalakudy River Protection Forum convener S. P. Ravi. A flute recital by Aniyan Pakkanar preceded the meeting.
