THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has called upon the Union government to drop the move to enact the Drugs and Cosmetics (Amendment) Bill 2007 seeking to take away the powers of States to control drug manufacture.

In a statement here, Mr. Vijayan said the new legislation would infringe into the powers of States to issue licences for drug manufacture and lead to shortage of life-saving drugs.
