The Khadi and Village Industries Commission, under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, is undertaking a reform programme aimed at positioning khadi in a competitive market and improving the lot of the artisans. Various reforms at the production and marketing stages are under way, with the assistance of a loan of $ 150 million from the Asian Development Bank.

The programme is expected to generate growth in employment, particularly among women, and enhance earnings of artisans.
