Agriculture scientist M.S. Swaminathan and cardiac surgeon M.S. Valiathan have been selected for this year’s Dr. K.P. Nair Lifetime Achievement Award. The award has been instituted by Dr. Nair’s Hospital here in memory of its founder Dr. K.P. Nair.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Thursday, director of the hospital P. Mohan Nair said that while Dr. Swaminathan had been chosen for the award in the category of science and technology, Dr. Valiathan would be awarded for his contribution to the field of medical science.

The awards would be presented at a function on December 5 marking the 44th anniversary of the hospital.

The occasion would also mark the 19th anniversary of the School of Nursing attached to the hospital. The awards carry a cash prize of Rs.10,000 each and a trophy.

As a prelude to the founder’s day celebrations, the hospital would organise continuing medical education programme on November 25 in association with the Kollam branch of the Indian Medical Association. Five topics of contemporary medical importance would be covered by the programme, he said.

A medical exhibition from December 1 to 4 would be organised in connection with the event.
