KOZHIKODE: Vineetha Menon sings Malayalam songs after writing it down in Hindi or English. She cannot be blamed as she did all her schooling in Bhopal. She has been making an earnest attempt to learn Malayalam. After all, her mother is Vallathol Narayana Menon's niece.
On Thursday, she retained the first prize she won last year in light music at the Calicut University inter-zone arts festival.
The BA (Economics) second year student of St. Mary's College, Thrissur, won the prize for her beautiful rendition of `Manasathin manicheppil... ,' a song written by Ramesh Kavil and composed by Preman. "It was written and composed just for this competition and my teacher, Mr. Gangadharan, taught it," said Vineetha.
"There isn't a competition for arts in Bhopal; you know one of the reasons why I decided to do my graduation in Kerala was to participate in such festivals," she says. She has competed in four University festivals and won in all of them. She has sung on television and for an album too. "Yes, I would like to make music my career," she says.
"Among all the singers today, she was, by far the best," said playback singer V.T. Murali.
