: The salaries of doctors working in government hospitals under contract with the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and those who may be newly appointed on contract has been enhanced, Minister for Health V.S. Sivakumar said.

The salary hike will come into effect from the month of December, he said. The monthly salary of undergraduate doctors (MBBS) working as medical officers in government hospitals has been enhanced from Rs. 27,140 to Rs. 32,000 . These doctors will get a salary of Rs,. 40,000 if they are serving in the districts of Idukki, Palakkad, Wayanad and Kasaragod.

Doctors with MBBS and a PG Diploma as additional qualification, who were receiving a monthly salary of Rs. 30,140, will now get an enhanced pay of Rs. 35,000. These doctors will be entitled to a salary of Rs. 43,000 if they serve in the under-served districts.

Doctors with postgraduate qualifications joining Health Service under NRHM contract will now receive an enhanced monthly salary of Rs. 37,000, instead of their earlier pay of Rs. 32,140. Their salary in the above-mentioned four under-served districts will be Rs. 45,000. The salaries of BDS holders in Health Service recruited by NRHM on contract has also been enhanced to Rs. 27,000 from the current salary of Rs. 21,800. Those with BDS and post graduation will now be eligible for salary of Rs. 32,000 instead of Rs. 26,800.
