His exemplary service during the brief period he has been at the Badiadukka community health centre (CHC) in northern Kasaragod has earned S. Vineeth the goodwill and affection of the people there.
Now, this doctor is set to serve the country, having scored the 56th rank in the Civil Services examination.
Dr. Vineeth, who hails from Anchal in Kollam district, did his MBBS from Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, in 2007. He wanted to serve the marginalised sections of society in remote villages of the State, and after serving in Idukki district, he joined the CHC, Badiadukka, in December 2012. He had set his heart on clearing the Civil Services examination when he was doing his medicine. He cleared the mains in his first attempt but not the interview. However, a resolute Vineeth did not let that deter him, and emerged successful in his third attempt.
Dr. Vineeth, who took psychology and geography as the optional subjects, put in seven to eight hours a day to prepare for the examination even while seeing to the needs of his patients. This stretched up to 10 hours a day in the days leading up to the crucial papers. Dr. Vineeth wants to continue at the Badiadukka CHC till he leaves for Mussoorie for his civil service training, he says.
