KOLLAM: C. Divakaran, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, has said that a comparison between the achievements of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in the State and the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre is enough to rout the Congress in the State in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
He was inaugurating the Kollam Lok Sabha constituency election convention of the LDF here on Saturday.
He said the UPA was a political experiment. Sixty-one Left party MPs extended unconditional support to the UPA inspite of widespread criticisms against it.
That support was extended in the interests of the people of the country. However, the UPA government did not nurture any commitment to the people. The Left had raised strong protests against this attitude of the UPA in the Lok Sabha.
Apart from Mr. Divakaran, the remaining four ministers from the district - P.K. Gurudasan, N.K. Premachandran, M.A. Baby and Mullakara Ratnakaran - were present at the convention.
The convention was inaugurated by Revolutionary Socialist Party State secretary V.P. Ramakrishna Pillai.
People’s Democratic Party district president Mylacuad Shah was present.
However, representatives of the Janata Dal (S) were conspicuous by their absence.
