34,001 students will appear for the exam in Ernakulam
The district has a total of 306 exam centres
KOCHI: Come March 15 and about 34,001 students will appear for the SSLC exam in the Ernakulam district. Out of this, 17,118 students are girls. Another 221 boys and 85 girls will appear for exam in private. A meeting of the district-level monitoring committee chaired by District Collector M. Beena took stock of the preparations being made ahead of the exam.
Exams will be held from 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. The first exam will be Malayalam. There will be no exams on March 19 and 26, both Fridays. But exams will be conducted on two Saturdays—March 20 and 27. The SSLC exam will end on March 27.
Question papers have been safely stored in 15 treasuries and three banks. Steps have been taken to ensure that question papers for each day's exam reached the examination centres in the morning, Anila George, Education Deputy Director, Ernakulam, said. The district has a total of 306 exam centres. Arrangements have also been made to send the answer sheets from the exam centres to the valuation camps by post.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Tomy Sebastian said that adequate police protection has been ensured for treasuries and banks where question papers are being kept. Ms. Beena instructed that enough protection should be given while transporting question papers to the exam centres and also at the centres where the answer sheets would have to be kept there if they could not be sent to the valuation camp on the day of exam itself.
Separate squads of district education officers and deputy director have been formed to check exam irregularities. The Ernakulam deputy director has been entrusted with the supervision of exams in Lakshadweep Island where 1,150 students are set to appear.
