PALAKKAD: The Forest Department, as part of its programme to promote timber species in private lands, has decided to supply quality teak stumps at Rs.2 each in all forest divisions under the Olavakkode circle.

The sale of stumps will be inaugurated on World Environment Day on June 5 in the forest divisions of Palakkad, Mannarkkad, Nemmara, Nilambur (North), Nilambur (South) and the range headquarters of Olavakkode, Walayar, Ottappalam, Agali, Attappady, Mannarkkad, Nelliampathy, Kollengode, Alathur, Vazhikkadavu, Edavanna, Nilambur, Karulai and Kalikavu.

In order to promote the growth of other timber species on private lands, a nursery outlet will be opened in the Malampuzha snake park on World Environment Day. Forestry species will be available here round the year at a nominal cost of Rs.5 a seedling, Conservator of Forest Nagesh Prabhu has said.
