To tackle the numerous issues faced by women in present-day society, the Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation (KSWDC) is organising ‘Disha 2013,’ an awareness programme in all the districts.
KSWDC Chairperson P. Kulsu told reporters here on Saturday that the programme would be officially inaugurated in the State by Minister for Panchayats M.K. Muneer at 9.30 a.m. on January 14 at Hotel Hyson Heritage. District Collector K.V. Mohan Kumar will be the chief guest on the occasion.
‘Disha 2013’ intended to create awareness among women on their legal rights and develop entrepreneurial skills. Homemakers were being encouraged to take up enterprises that would empower them financially and socially.
A special session would be held in the presence of the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court, Judges, noted lawyers, journalists, and other eminent people in the State to formulate an action plan to ensure comprehensive empowerment of women. A report would be submitted to the State government based on the ideas developed at the session. Meanwhile, the KSWDC had taken up a programme to enable women to defend themselves. A self-defence training programme had been launched as a pilot project in Thiruvananthapuram district through which 800 girls would be offered training in martial arts.
