An interactive workshop on English language and its applications will be held here on July 13 under the aegis of the English Literature Department of the Sree Narayana College here in association with the Malabar Collectivity for Culture.

The workshop at Hotel Central Avenue here is for the benefit of professionals in various fields and disciplines.

College and higher secondary teachers, lawyers, professionals in the judiciary, government executives, and postgraduates, and those taking the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOFEL) examinations will be given preference, organising committee members C.K. Sreekumar and N. Sajan said here.

P. Bhaskaran Nair, Professor and language expert from Lincoln University, United Kingdom, will lead the interactive session. The title of his presentation will be ‘Whose English is it.’

Prof. Nair had taught various categories of students and personnel employed in non-English speaking countries.

His 40-year career spanned the continents of Africa, America, Asia, and Europe, the event organisers said.

English had shed its colonial image and was now a global language, especially with the wide use of Internet-based media, social networks, e-media, online journalistic ventures, blogging, and information and library networks.
