The government has ordered disciplinary action against two doctors in the department of obstetrics and gynaecology at Cherthala taluk hospital who were found to have performed Caesarean sections (C-sections) with undue haste and much ahead of the expected dates of delivery of the women concerned.

Though the Vigilance panel which inquired into the large number of C-sections that were performed at the hospital on April 19 and 20 had found that the rate of C-sections performed by four doctors were on the high side, the government has decided to issue charge memo against only two doctors – Khyrunnisa and Siciliamma – who had performed the C-sections by moving the cases ahead of the expected dates of delivery.

Explanation will be sought from the other two doctors too.

Charge memo

Charge memo will be issued to the doctors and the final decision on the action to be taken will be decided after getting the doctors' written explanation.
