Mediaperson and filmmaker Sashi Kumar has said that the ability to memorise was sidelined after the advent of the written language.

He was inaugurating a national seminar on ‘glimpses of Vedic vision in Indian writing in English', organised by the Department of English, Sree Sankara Vidyapeetom College, Perumbavoor, near here, in collaboration with Sukritindra Oriental Research Institute, Ernakulam.

He said much of the Vedic tradition had existed in the oral form prior to the arrival of the manuscript. The digital form of information is gaining importance in the modern era. P. Narayana Kurup, poet and critic, academicians P.C. Muralee Madhavan, T. Sreedharan and Nityananda Bhat were among those who spoke.
