Kochi city and the adjoining suburban townships like Tripunithura, Maradu, are reeling under shortage of drinking water due to the inadequacy of the piped water supply.
The population of these areas, are mainly dependent on water supplied by private tanker lorries.
Recently the government cracked down on these lorries after it found bacteria in the water supplied through these private tanker lorries.
However, due to pressure from the tanker lorry lobby this checking was stopped as they threatened to stop supplies.
The government must not give in to such pressure tactics but instead supply water through KSRTC tanker lorries to the populace. The KWA should ensure that enough outlets are opened to serve these KSRTC tankers with drinking water.
Traffic to Aroor
With much fanfare, the traffic diversion through the mobility hub was effected recently .
Although it was welcomed by many, a few sections of the people, especially from West Kochi, have called for restoration of the earlier system.
The difficulties being experienced by the people of West Kochi can be easily resolved by giving a small extension of present route. City buses now terminating at Edakochi should be extended up to Aroor bypass junction as a temporary measure. All FP buses of KSRTC should have compulsory stop at Aroor junction; just like there is at Thoppumpady.
Some of the private buses operating from Cherthala and Eramallur upto Kaloor should be re-routed via Thoppumpady.
