: Hundreds of people under the aegis of the People’s Action Council took out a march to the Vechoochira grama panchayat office in Ranni taluk on Thursday in protest against the licence given by the local body to a granite quarry functioning at Chembanmudimala in the adjoining Naranammoozhy panchayat. Addressing the march, P.Prasad, Communist Party of India (CPI), district secretary, alleged that the quarry-crusher lobby had affected the livelihood of villagers of Chembanoly, Madanthamon and Vakamukku in Naranammoozhy panchayat.

The unit had violated the laws of the land, especially the Mines Act.
