THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said that the Fish Workers Debt Relief Commission will consider the loans taken for various purposes by fish workers from banks during the second stage of its functioning.

He was inaugurating the first stage of the writing off of loans taken by fish workers for acquiring fishing equipment and for housing at Vettucaud here on Wednesday.

He asserted that the writing off of all debts was not the government’s policy.

The nature of the loan, the condition of the person who had taken the loan and the reasons for non repayment would be examined.

He also made it clear that loans would not be written off again. The avenues for getting loans in future should be kept open.
