PALAKKAD: The Cabinet subcommittee , which met in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday, has decided to bring down the price of sand mined from the Malampuzha reservoir from Rs.1,225 to Rs.1,000 a cubic metre, including tax and royalty.

BPL families will be given the sand at the rate of Rs.750 a cubic metre. Sand for construction of houses under the MN and EMS housing schemes will be now available at Rs.750. Earlier, the sand was auctioned at Rs.2,300 a cubic metre.
