Cultural pollution has become a great cause for concern for Kerala and India as a whole which was once regarded as a cultural hub, P.N. Suresh, Vice Chancellor, Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University, has said.
Mr. Suresh was inaugurating a cultural meet held in connection with the 101st Hindu religious meet at Cherukolpuzha, near Kozhencherry, on Tuesday.
Culture was the totality of the learned, socially transmitted customs, knowledge, material objects and behaviour.
Mr. Suresh said lack of trust and culture, and absence of proper upbringing had driven the present-day society towards unwanted materialistic pursuits.
Swami Rithambarananda, secretary of Sivagiri Madhom, presided. B. Padmakumar, Government Medical College, Alappuzha, delivered the keynote address.
