KOZHIKODE: The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (CPI-ML) has decided to field Sabi Joseph, lawyer and trade union leader, in the Lok Sabha election from Kozhikode.

CPI(ML) leaders said on Saturday that Mr. Joseph would contest as an Independent.

A convention will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the Sports Council Hall at Mananchira. Party leaders N. Ajoy Kumar, P.T. Haridas, P.K. Priyesh Kumar, P.J. James and M.P. Kunhikanaran will speak. The CPI(ML) has offered its support to Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) dissidents at Onchiyam if they field a candidate from Vadakara.

The party will field seven candidates in the State in the coming polls, it said at a press meet on Saturday. The CPI(ML) was offering an alternative to the Left Democratic Front, the United Democratic Front and the Bharatiya Janata Party since these coalition and parties were pursuing ‘anti-people’ policies, especially the Communist Party of India (Marxist) which supported the United Progressive Alliance government’s ‘imperialist policies.’
