The Communist Party of India's (CPI) district committee has urged the State government to take steps to protect the employment opportunities of plantation workers in Nelliampathy hills.

The meeting held here on Thursday also urged the government to take stern action against encroachers in Nelliampathy.

The government should handover the estates taken over after expiry of lease period to the Kerala Forest Development Corporation, it said.

The meeting was presided over by party State committee member Eswari Reshan. The report was presented by district secretary Vijayan Kunisseri.
