A petition was filed in the Kerala High Court challenging the selection of Malayalam film Manjadikkuru directed by Anjali Menon for the 2012 State awards.

In their petition, Saji Nanthiyattu and Raju Malliath, film producers, said the film had been censored in 2007. Therefore, the film should not have been considered for the Kerala State Film Awards 2012. Films which had been censored during the calendar year 2012 should only have been allowed entry. In fact, Manjadikkuru was a revised version of Manjadikkuru released in 2007. It had won awards in 2008 as well, they alleged.

The award distribution ceremony of the State film awards is scheduled on Monday.

The petitioners alleged that if old award winning movies were considered with minor cosmetic changes, producers of new movies would be affected.

The second petitioner’s possibility of winning the best script writer award for the film Ee Adutha Kalathu had been scuttled.
