A petition filed on Friday before the Kerala High Court alleged that K.A. Rauf, relative of Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty, has moved a writ seeking a CBI inquiry into the rubber smuggling case with a view to sabotaging the entire case.

The petition by V.K. Raju, State general secretary, Indian Lawyers Congress, pleaded that he be impleaded as additional respondent in the writ. He alleged that with the active connivance of the police and tax officials, the accused persons were able to successfully protract the investigation. He called for an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the failure of the investigating officer in submitting periodic reports and also regarding the failure in calling for periodic reports regarding the case registered, pursuant to a directive of the High Court.

The petitioner said there was a prima facie case of conspiracy to defraud the State by smuggling out rubber without paying sales tax .
