A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Thursday directed the Railways to file an affidavit in response to a petition seeking a directive to the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety to conduct a detailed inquiry into a recent incident in which a bogie of a passenger train got disconnected from the engine and derailed at the Alappuzha railway station. The petition was filed by the State Committee of the All Indian Lawyers Union. According to the petitioner, the reason for such incidents was lack of proper maintenance of the coaches.
