Kochi: The Kerala High Court has adjourned to May 18 the hearing on Kerala Stamp Vendors' Association's plea against a notification to fill the vacancies of four stamp vendors in Ernakulam district.

The hearing was adjourned to enable the government pleader to get instruction in the case. In the petition, association president M.R. Padmanabhan said the notification was against Rule 35 of the Kerala Manufacture and Sale of Stamp Rules. As per the notification, three vacancies existed in and around North Paravur. The posts were created without following the rules. According to the petitioner, the government had not complied with the ‘distance rules.' The distance between two vendors should be less than two kilometres in Corporation areas, four km in municipal areas and eight km in panchayat areas. Persons with document writers' licence were not eligible for appointment as stamp vendors, the petitioner said.
